How do we care for and watch over each other from far away? Being separated from each other can create a disturbing mixture of anxiety and fear on both sides. Family members don’t really know what’s going on in their elder’s lives on a day-to day basis and are increasingly concerned that they won’t be able to respond immediately to an eldercare emergency.
Older family members fear that something bad may happen to them and no would know. How, then, do we help them balance a desire to remain at home measurably independent while ensuring their safety and security.
The answer requires family caregivers to take necessary precautions: making the home a safer place to live: staying alert to con artists and scams: and creating a stronger family and community network of support.
